Provider Institute Best Practice Tip
The following steps are recommended to help you comply with meeting vaccination requirements:
- Update or implement a Vaccination Policy and Procedure outlining requirements.
- Ensure free access to influenza and COVID-19 vaccines for all consumers and staff.
- Promote the benefits of vaccination through newsletters, care planning discussions, posters, and staff briefings.
- Record consumer and staff vaccination status in Care Plans and clinical notes, including exemptions and reasons. Include vaccination in Care Coordination where relevant.
- Facilitate access to vaccines via in-house services or external providers.
- Educate staff on vaccination requirements, documentation standards, and how to support consumers with information about vaccinations.
- Review vaccination records regularly and update Care Plans as needed.
- For residential aged care providers: ensure data collection processes will enable you to submit annual vaccination data by 31 July.
- Suggest and encourage vaccination for visitors, especially during outbreaks.
