NDIS Providers – Keep Up to Date with Sector Developments: School Leaver Employment Support Report (July 2022 – June 2023)
What’s Changed?
The fourth edition of the School Leaver Provider Quarterly Report, released by the NDIA, offers crucial insights into employment supports for young participants transitioning from school to work.
Covering data from July 2022 to June 2023, the report analyses outcomes for 6,553 participants, primarily focusing on those with autism or intellectual disabilities. It highlights key findings such as employment success rates: 30% achieved open employment, 5% secured supported employment, and 14% pursued further study or volunteer work upon exiting the program.
The report highlights the importance of tailored support in achieving successful employment outcomes. It details that participants supported by providers in job acquisition are more likely to secure paid employment, particularly in sectors like retail, tourism, and manufacturing. Notably, interventions that emphasise skill development, employer engagement, and job customisation were shown to significantly enhance employment prospects.
Why is this Important?
For NDIS providers, the report serves as a benchmark for best practices. It identifies effective strategies such as increased time spent on skill-specific training and active engagement with employers, which correlate with higher employment rates among participants. The data-driven insights empower providers to refine their approaches, ensuring better outcomes for young Australians transitioning into the workforce.
The report offers actionable insights into optimising school leaver employment supports. By highlighting successful strategies and key factors influencing employment outcomes, the report facilitates continuous improvement in service delivery, ultimately enhancing the employability and independence of NDIS participants.
