The Aged Care Royal Commission, concluding in 2021, painted a stark picture of systemic issues in the Aged Care sector, and sparked the most significant reforms in the sector’s history. A key outcome is the planned introduction of a new Aged Care Act, aiming to enshrine a “universal right” to high-quality care. This, coupled with enhanced Quality Standards, is intended to increase service quality, and empower residents. A revamped Regulatory Model is also under development, focusing on proactive monitoring and enforcement to ensure compliance. In this update, we look at current and recently completed consultations that will inform these reforms.
